BAA Investment Group is a privately held real estate investment firm based in Oakland, California that focuses on the acquisition and management of multifamily properties. We are constantly looking for well-located assets that provide us an opportunity to add significant value through the successful execution of a detailed investment strategy and business plan. Founded in 2009, the company’s investment activity totals +$100mn across approximately 1000 units.

We are a vertically integrated company. Our comprehensive capabilities include acquisitions, development, financing, asset management, accounting and investor relations. Our platform includes a dedicated management company (Bay Apartment Advisors), which provides property management services for all of the current portfolio.

BAA Investment Group has been actively acquiring and operating multifamily investment properties in the East Bay for over a decade. We have quickly become one of the largest residential property owners and managers in the region. Our goal is to deliver attractive returns to our investors from stable multifamily investments, while offering the ability to own management intensive real estate investments, without the constant issues of traditional ownership. We believe in performance, transparency, and a deep knowledge of the markets in which we invest.

We contend that the Bay Area housing market continues to suffer from a significant shortage, which we believe makes this asset class and our strategy very unique. Our focus is predominately based in the East Bay in rent controlled districts where we believe we can add value though recognizing market inefficiencies, increasing income, decreasing expenses, and streamlining property management. We are keen observers of the market conditions and may sell or refinance when we believe it delivers the maximum benefit to our investors.

Joel Kelly

Managing Partner

Joel is a managing partner of BAA Investment Group and the president of Bay Apartment Advisors. Joel oversees the property management for all investments. He started his career in apartment building brokerage in 2001 with Marcus & Millichap and has overseen the sales and transactions more than $1billion in apartment buildings in the Bay Area. He has represented developers, REITs, banks, and private clients. Joel holds a B.S. from UC Santa Barbara.

Kristopher Lamont

Partner

Kris began his brokerage career in 2005 with Marcus & Millichap. During his career, Kris has been in- volved in the sale of over 4,000 units in the San Francisco Bay Area, totaling over $1billion. Kris joined the team in 2010, responsible for the build out of the brokerage segment of the company, property management and sales of multifamily properties throughout the East Bay. Kris earned his B.A. from the University of Southern Maine.

Wes Dalton

Director of Equity Investments

Wes joined the company in 2018. He is responsible for strategic planning, investment decisions, overseeing financing activities, and investor relations. He has over 20 years of financial and investment experience. Wes began his career at Robertson Stephens in Institutional Equity Sales and has helped build and develop institutional relationships for a variety of investment banks. Wes holds a B.A. from the University of California Berkeley.

Tyler Kellner

Vice President of Operations

Tyler is the VP of Operations and oversees the day to day operations of the portfolio. Tyler joined the team in 2016 and is the Vice President of Bay Apartment Advisor’s Property Management Division, where he interacts with the BAA Investment Group’s investment properties on a daily basis. Tyler oversees a team of resident managers, leasing agents, and accountants to effectively manage over 30 properties. Tyler holds a B.A. from UC Santa Barbara.

Joel Kelly

Managing Partner

Joel is a managing partner of Lakeview Land Partners and the president of Bay Apartment Advisors, a brokerage and property management firm based in Oakland, CA. Joel and his company oversees the property management for these investments. Joel started his career in apartment building brokerage in 2001 with Marcus & Millichap, a national brokerage firm. He worked in the San Francisco and Oakland offices for that firm and ranked in the top 3 brokers (Oakland Office) before he moved to Cassidy Turley Commercial (Formerly BT Commercial) in 2006, where he was the highest producing apartment agent in the Oakland office and top 3 multi-family agent in the firm.

Joel has overseen the sales/transactions of $1 Billion in apartment buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area, predominantly in the East Bay. He has represented developers, REITs, banks, and private clients. Joel oversees the ownership and management +/- 800 apartment units located in the East Bay Area and Bay Apartment Advisors is one of the top brokerage & property management firms in the region. Joel serves on the Board of Directors for The Jobs & Housing coalition (JHC) in Oakland and formerly served on the board for directors for The East Bay Rental Housing Assn. (EBRHA).

Joel graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Urban Geography. Joel lives in Orinda Ca. with his wife Jessica and their two children.

Christopher C. Curtis

Managing Partner

Chris is a managing partner of Lakeview Land Partners and a development partner with Bay Apartment Advisors Investment Division and oversees asset management for the investment. Chris brings over 30 years of experience in all facets of investment real estate including residential, office, industrial, retail and hospitality properties. He began his career as an apartment broker for Coldwell Banker in the Oakland and Contra Costa markets and assembled a portfolio of small properties for his own account. He then became an office leasing broker with Cushman & Wakefield in San Francisco and was hired by Equitable Real Estate as leasing manager for One Market Plaza. He went on to become San Francisco Regional Asset Manager for Equitable with asset management responsibility for 36 million square feet of office, industrial, retail and hospitality properties located in 7 western states and Hawaii. Prior to joining Lakeview Land Partners, he was a senior Vice President and Leasing Manager at Shorenstein Company for 10 years, responsible for marketing and leasing class A high-rises in various cities across the nation including the John Hancock Center and Prudential Plaza in Chicago, Phoenix Plaza in Phoenix and Oakland City Center.

Chris was a Trustee of the Oakland Museum of California Foundation and served on the Renovation Committee. He was also very active in the formation of the two Oakland business improvement districts and was Vice President of both the Lake Merritt/Uptown Community Benefit District and the Downtown Oakland Association. Chris holds a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law and a B.A. from University of Redlands.
